of course you wouldn't want to go to the ground because you're worried about being stomped but, thats why you bring friends so make sure no one else jumps in :)

I train in BJJ so not critisizing it but BJJ is better for comps and Kickboxing is ok if you have a lot of room but close quarters it aint that good either, but interesting to see different opinions

This is only half true... Against multiple assailents, it is very unfortunate to be on the ground, but if it were single assailents, nothing will get someone off of you like a good, fully cranked heel hook :P
And kickboxing is competition training all the way

let's remember that kickboxing originates from karate and is about 30 years old. The soul of karate is self defence.

And even if you face one guy it's very stupid to get on the ground to search for a heel hook unless your are purple belt or higher!

Thai, BJJ

I have fought in both Thai fights, and in MMA fights, and I still do both styles today. I have dabbled in almost everything, and Thai by far is the most dominating stand-up art there is, WITH SOMONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO USE IT. I don't argue with people on is it better than kung fu, JKD, TWD. I just let that go because even though I respect ALL arts. That is what the majority of that is. ART, of self defense. Learn Thai, and you learn to use evry weapon you have on your feet, and you also learn to take punishment which is important. BJJ is great, but mix it with some wrestling because without good wrestling, groung position can be a problem, and a good wrestler will never let you gain position.

though kickboxing is young, thai boxing is a bit older:

I saw a couple of guys say they were going into the FBI. Wanting to know how that turned out as Ill be going to the police academy in a year and half after graduating from Miami University with a double degree in History and Poli Sci. I figure my background in BJJ and Muay Thai will definitely help me with getting on at both the police academy and the FBI.

Here at school there is no such thing as a fair fight. My buddy got busted in the head with a beer bottle at a club when it was just me and him, he was knocked out and I had 3 guys standing in front of me. I made one of them remember my name before the bouncers stepped in and I had to drag my friend to the hospital.

I appreciate your opinion, however, I have been a Muay Thai fighter for nearly 3 years and trust me, muay thai style kickboxing, (I can't vouch for other styles) has helped me out of so many fights. Muay Thai teaches true power through body mechanics. The clinch is fantastic in brawls, as usually noone knows what's happening. The key to defense is repetition. You will fight the way you train. If you take a half hour class a week, then don't expect to get the type of result you are looking for.
