We had a guy that joined two years ago; he was 74 at the time. He loves every minute of it.

Do not be intimidated if you cannot sub anyone, just keep at it. Everything comes with time.

I have seen people with as little as 6 months experience participate in Amateur MMA.

Take your time. Sometimes it takes steps and sometimes it takes leaps. Just make sure you ask your trainers what they think, seeing as they will be able to better judge your skills.

Do you have any martial arts background? Maybe some wrestling? I'm sure they showed you some military combat right? Are you atheletic? If so, you should have an edge already.

skip the kung fu, do some BJJ and THai boxing if you want to get right into MMA. I also suggest wrestling clubs ext. Basics are great.

Dont rush it as well, no matter what a coach says, build your foundation before some one knocks you off your path and into the gutter.

never too late, british actor Dave Legeno had his first pro mma fight at Cage Rage at age 40. Lost his first 3 but then rededicated himself and now has won last 4 fights and is 4-3. he has been in films like Snatch, batman begins and Outlaws. Just encouraging you that it is never to late with right training and dedication!

sounds like you have a good basis tony, cardio is the serious killer in mma and if you keep progressing there too it will wonders for you.

I too am from britain and the 1 thing i have learned is that good wrestling coaches are hard to come by. I understand you wanting to learn BJJ but remember you still need to get your opponent on to the ground and have good control over them when you get them there, so learn some wrestling mate. You will learn best what suits your body and your interests but BJJ and muay thai without wrestling will be hard to incorparate in mma...IMO anyway!

Well if you train hard enough your at a good age to get where you want to be. I have heard of generation actually, liverpool is one fo the top places in the uk for mma. they have a very good event there too cage gladiators i believe.

I am more of a stand up guy but very much appreciate BJJ and I would definatly recomend it, just get good wrestling to go hand in hand with it. I am from Cardiff but am moving just outside sheffield next week, will keep an eye out for you. I will prob be looking for a gym there sometime soon.
