do you prefer gi or no gi?

with my current style of BJJ (I like to call it "take no prisoners and don't think" or "no risk is too great") I'd prefer no gi. The escapes are much easier, and pinning your opponent gets really really important. But really gi fighting is fun too. It brings another dimention to the fighting.

must admit i do prefer no gi but i really enjoy the gi but it irritates me when i keep getting gi choked from the purple belts lol. I think gi training does improve your no gi ability. I think if you escape a sub with a gi on its a true escape and not relying on strength or sweat but i find wearing a gi sometimes a bit claustrophobic, but that is probably due to the fact i havent wore a gi for about 6 years

yeah I find it claustrofobic too, but that's cos I have a thickassed HCK gi, when it gets sweatty it's like a damn oven. Good for the cardio though. Anyway, I agree with you, your escapes are much better, and you can "save" a failed attept by grabbing the gi. And yes, I hate the gichokes too, hence my thickassed HCK gi with a thickassed collor ;)

yeah mine is quite thick too, but where i train i have no excuses as they are very open to cross trainers so its gi or no gi and i still get beaten easy but without a gi i last a little longer lol. Its good going to a BJJ class with superb credentials and they are happy with people wearing whatever suits them.
