BJJ vs. Hapkido

There may not be a puncher's chance on the ground, but anyone that has ever wrestled can tell you that probably the hardest opponent you will face will be an untrained one. Yes, I know wrestling is different than actual grappling or ground fight, but some of the same principals can be applied. Because he is new and does not know the pins/locks he does not care what you have him in and will do anything to get out. Maybe not 100% of untrained wrestlers get out, but more than half do. While most people that are trained will start thinking about what you pin or lock you have put them in and will psyche themselves out.
Not to cross train cripples the martial arts, without it you can become a mechanic, but never an artist.

being on the floor if you have never been there before is like a fish out of water, and when someone is choking you thare isnt much you can do

Agreed. But I was talking more in regards to wrestling than grappling or ground fighting.
