Sanchez made his MMA debut in 2002 and fought in smaller shows, mostly the King of the Cage promotion. His UFC debut came when he was chosen as a participant on the first season of the reality show, The Ultimate Fighter. He won a contract with the UFC after winning a fight against Kenny Florian, becoming the Middleweight winner for the first season of the show. Shortly after Sanchez dropped to Welterweight, defeating Brian Gassaway, Nick Diaz, John Alessio, and Karo Parisyan.

Sanchez' most recent fight was against Joe Riggs on December 13, 2006 at UFC Fight Night 7. Sanchez landed a right hook that knocked Riggs down, followed by a running knee that knocked Riggs out. Sanchez won at 1:45 of the first round, scoring the first knockout of his career. His next fight will be on April 7, 2007 at UFC 69 in Houston, Texas against fellow TUF competitor Josh Koscheck. This will mark the second fight between the two; the first being on the Ultimate Fighter Season 1 which Diego Sanchez won a three round split decision. This fight didn't count towards any of the fighters' official records due to it being an exhibition fight.

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

Kos is going to get rocked. Diego is more rounded than Kos. Look for Kos to try to lay and pray.

These two are tough but I don't like either one of them. I don't care who wins. Kochek seems little bit more of a dick than Sanchez but whatever..
I prefer Diaz way more.

Diego gets my respect, but I'm not a huge fan.. He's a bit of an ass. But, I will cheer for him when he stomps Hughes.

Actually since Hughes is so washed up and I was so hard on him I might cheer for him against already better Sanchez. I'd be really shocked if Hughes beat Sanchez.

Dirty Sanchez; the future of the UFC WW division. I am looking forward to seeing him battle with GSP for years to come.

If Diego and GSP fight, I won't know who route for. I honestly like both fighters.

I think that fight would be good.. But, I see George knocking Diego out. Sounds odd, but I bet thats how it'd go down.

Sanchez is an amazing fighter IMO. I think his attitude is the problem.

That's the problem with most of the new/young fighters. I personally think that Diego wouldn't beat Hughes, but I think he might provide a good match up.

He could be GSP's toughest obstacle yet. I really don't see anyone else at the moment.
