Right where do I start, I've been training martial arts all my life and trained in several different ones, It's always been a passion. Now MMA has exploded, martial arts have exploded and eveyone wants to do it. While I am open minded and welcome new people to the world of martial arts It just seems that everyone I talk to about seems to think they are some sort of guru.
It gets me aggrivated, I'll chat to someone at my muay thai/ Bjj Lessons or even chat to someone out in the street while on a night out and if the conversation gets into martial arts they talk like they know everything and tell me how ace people like lesnar are. lol.
What got me thinking this was while I was out a friend said to me "you still keeping up with the muay thai training?" A person standing close by outside having a smoke started chatting to me telling me ALL about muay thai and how cool it was... yada yada yada. He ended up trying to explain the gaurd to me and was standing there square on with his hands miles apart, to say the least I felt like slapping him upside the head with my shin and telling him he didnt know a thing.
So.. does this sort of stuff piss anyone else off??
everyone's a blackbelt, everyone's a critique, everyone's so knowledgable about MMA, brock lesnar's a beast, chuck liddell is the best stiker, sucker for the UFC poster boys.
that sort of stuff.

It doesn't piss me off. I kind of make me laugh at times, but lately it's been getting annoying.

The first few times it was funny, the few times after that i took the liberty of pointing out i knew a lot more than they took me for and explained the fact i not only train but i compete so there are no arguments there but now it does get annoying. I have a mutual respect for anyone that is willing to train seriously across any martial art not just MMA and it's associated sections but when someone tries to preach to me that they know everything when in effect they know little to none does aggravate me. The next time someone tries to show me a Muay Thai stance and turn their front foot inwards I'm going to nicely shin them and prove a point

It is funny to me. I have been doing Martial arts for 35+ years and It has always made me laugh. The thing that is funnier now is that everyone that I talk to under 20 that has been doing MMA thinks they know the "real" fighting methods and say that TMA is crap or not effective. I have to say most "new age" TMA is crap that does not work, but the stuff that we did in the 70's and 80's was somewhat crazier than I see in a ring now adays.
The only thing you can do is gage if the guy knows what the fuck they are taling about, if they dont...just laugh!

It will get worse before it get's better. It happened back in day and it's happening again. It's called the "McDojo Effect." Now that MMA (or MA) is getting popular you will start seeing McDojos popping up and then see the people that gorge themselves on it.
You know how many MMA and BJJ schools have started popping up around my area? Heck, even one guys promises you belts in MMA. Woot?!? So naturally if someone trains at one, they are going to think their triple hawaiin punch red belt means they know something.

About Martial Arts I cant say an opinion but in music for example I have been playing the violin for almost 15 years, and when i listen a newbie that began practicing 2 years ago talking a lot of bullshit, I just laugh. However, what piss me off is when other people think that that newbie is somebody very wise and then they tell me "he is awesome, he has just been practicing for 2 years and knows a lot of things", when in reality he doesnt know a shit.

The funniest McDojo story I can tell is this one....well okay maybe not THE funniest..but up thier.
I Started training a long long long long....Long time ago and their was this TaeKwonDo place that was running and calling themselves "Korean Karate" at the time. But when Bruce Lee got Big they started calling themselves "Korean Kung Fu" and advertised like Crazy. Then Chuck Norris was bigger and Lee had passed, Back to "Korean Karate"! Years later Segal was getting big and they started offering "Korean Aikido" classes that were basically crap! Then the whole gay pony tail era died and that class was now "Korean Judo" with TKD classes on alternating nights. The Ninja Turtles got big and the TKD was "Korean Ninjitsu"...I shit you not! Now the UFC is getting bigger in the 90's and they offered...you guessed it "korean BJJ"....KOREAN BRAZILIAN JUJITSU!!!!!!! Now the club offeres Korean Judo/TKD and Korean MMA training...
I have also seen very traditional based students that now offere BJJ training in their clubs that have never set foot on a BJJ mat before or trained with a BJJ instructor but just learn a move from a book and offer it up to the students....Stupid!!

I can't stand those people who say how much they love MMA and have been watching for years and the only thing they know is what they saw on the latest UFC event. They have never trained or even read anything bout the sport EVER and yet they are experts. It pisses me off something chronic. I'm not an MMA guru or nothing but I pay attention to whats going on keep an open mind and above all remember that 'the UFC is an MMA brand not the ENTIRE bloody sport'... wish people would wake up and bloody realise that!

I have seen that soo many times. For instance, I just started training 7 years ago. We do everything we can. So someone asked me what I do up at the gym and I said MMA....They just blankly looked at me. And few moments later they said, "OH YOU TRAIN UFC!" I just walked away.
