LMAO, I was so right! The nail in the coffin was Seth oppening his mouth and saying what he said. It just showed how crooked and crappy the entire company was. Hopefully a Pheonix rises from the ashes on this one. We need a few companies that can keep pace with the UFC to force them to give us good shows.

Affliction may be done soon, they are bleeding very baddly but not dead yet.
Adrenaline...who? They have yet to offer up a show that can be seen as their own.
Pro Elite/Elite XC ...RIP!
PRIDE.....RIP
Strike force.... Small time and not going to really make any noise.
IFL.....RIP! Tried something new and found out that the fans did not like a changeni the recipie!
WEC....Owned by the UFC and specifically not competing with them by moving to the small guys only.
M1 Global....RIP
K1....MMA seems to be a hobby with the kickboxing group. Not going to stir the ire of the UFC as of yet.
Sangoku.....Not shown overseas and also not on the radar of the UFC...yet!
BoDog...RIP
AFL.......Signed a pro wrestler to the company as a main eventer....Like Kimbo, I dont think Lashleys name will help the AFL get any bigger than it is. and if they lean on his name to much they might find themselves like the Pro Elite...wondering what happened.
Cage Rage......A viable british company that has some big names, but makes a small splash. They could take up the mantal of second gun, but really European groups and other foreign companies have had issues breaking into the US market to make a big impact....see Pride!
KOTC.......About as farm league as they come. Not going to be a second gun anytime soon, but has a good history and if they can stay at were they are they might find fighters flocking to them for pay checks, even if they are not huge.

Did I miss anyone? The problem with MMA right now is we need a few second teer organizations to push the UFC and serve as a training ground for B level and C level fighters. KOTC seems to be the only viable place for that. Once you are drummed out of the UFC you dont really have a second or third option that is bigger than country fair side shows. Companies like Pro Elite, as much as I hate the management were neccessary! Now we need a company to step in and fill the void!

Oh thats too bad! I'm pretty sure it has more to do with the current economy than with their problems scheduling quality matches. Their latest show got more ratings than the previous two. Hopefully Affliction will be able to take some of their fighters and be able to survive 2009.

It had nothing to do with the economy, a crutch term that many will be using in the coming months, it had to do with poor management and shifty/shady deals with fighters, miss treatment of champions and the image that was created in the general publics eyes from this kind of behavior. The Shaws should be banned from MMA along wit Lapin and the other idiots....let them go back to boxing!@!!

Damn, does this shit mean no more Curano on primetime TV???? Anyways, I wonder who will pick up some of the fighters. Will HDNET make a move and create there own brand? I like to see Jake Shields in the UFC.

Hate to say it but  saw that coming as did most people I think and my reaction is simple...don't care, sorry.
My fingers stay crossed however for Affliction.

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

Affliction might make more than one showing in 2009 depending on how well the promo goes with Golden Boy.

Well Affliction has the fighters and even the brand name after thier first show to become a BIG brand name and a major palyer in MMA, now we just need to see if they have the business skills to make it a success and only time will tell there :!:
Fingers crossed for Affliction and R.I.P EliteXC :P

I dont agree! While Affliction has some of the big names NOT in the UFC, they are bleeding money worse than Elite was. The name is not that big outside of MMA fans, ask a MMA fan about affliction and you get "yah, good tee shirt" " we will see about the promotion" type of answer. Now ask a NON MMA fan and you get "oh, are they doing UFC fighting?" or " Sounds like a disease!" I kid you not!

I think Affliction would be smart to fold and cut their losses as Mike A (vp of Affliction) just admited that the company is in Major debt and they HAD to sign with Golden boy to copromote so they could actually raise the money to put on the second card.....keeping in mind he said that if they did not have a "money making" card by number three they were out!

My thoughts are that CBS is eyeing getting into their own promotion of MMA and that the company that comes out of that will be the next challenger for the UFC. it will be run by people that know TV and will have a bank to back it that dwarfs the UFCs bank. However, I am not sure that this will go threw for a while as they are waiting to see what happens to Elite and were that leaves them.

For now, Affliction is "deadman walking" and "on the green mile" they know it and anyone that knows MMA knows it! The rest just think it sounds like something you dont want to have or can get shots for!

I don't believe they have the business men to make Affliction a huge competitor right now but they do have fighter talent and that is a huge hurdle. I am not saying they will ever be on par with the UFC but doesn't mean they can't be a player. They need someone with enough money who loves the sport to come in and give them the boost otherwise yeah I agree they will be sunk in no time. Their first show might not have had the world wide success they wished for but any MMA fan that saw it would probably not complain about them putting on any more cards. Thats what I meant by success (should have made it more clear)!!!

Those so called "talented fighters" or maybe just "named fighters" are getting paid the premium in MMA sense. It's great to have but its also the achilles of Affliction.
