WEC middleweight champion Paul Filho weighed-in this afternoon for tomorrow night's title defense against Chael Sonnen seven pounds over the 185-pound weight limit. Yes, that's right, seven pounds.

Filho has two hours to make weight but something tells me that won't be happening. If he doesn't make weight after the two-hour time limit has expired, WEC officials will decide how to proceed with the fight. One thing's for certain, though, the title won't be on the line. Stay tuned

*UPDATE*

Quote:
Filho only got down to 189 pounds. The fight is still on, but the middleweight title won't be on the line. As a result, Filho goes down as the last middleweight champion in WEC history.

That's freakin' squirly not only about not being able to cut weight, but more importantly the last WEC MW champion! Pathetic! He was what 7lbs over? SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! He calls himself the champion. That's f'kin' sad!

That should be exactly what happens...all fighters know whats expected of them and they should have enough heart to go make the required weight. He should have the title stripped away from him NOW! I have always been a big fan of Filho but that is just wrong, he is either lazy or weak hearted in thining he wouldn't win and keep the belt. Was actually hoping he would be Sonnen but now I hope he gets his ass handed to him.
Be interesting to see if the UFC want someone who is not a true pro...cos that is exactly how I see him now.

Apparently people have stated they have seen him drinking heavily since Monday. Maybe Filho doesn't care about the title since WEC is dropping it?

Filho might have well thought screw the belt but he should have still thought about a being professional. He looked incredibly sloppy by not making weight especially as he was so over the 185lb limit. Regardless of how he felt about the actual belt he is still a paid pro fighter who has a job to do and he didn't do it. If he is wanting to get into the UFC he had better start thinking what message he sent out by coming in looking that out of shape. Filho made himself look an ass and I will be suprised if Dana signs him after that.

This is pre fight comments...post fight comments actually would be almost identical

I think not making weight, then turning in a crap fight like that would be enough for me to send him packing. If you get the crowd to boo in each round simply by fighting not to do something...you are exeptionally good at sucking!

He was out of it the entire time. Did you see how he was at the end of the fight? He couldn't even touch gloves.

I agree but would have said it a little different...the guy is a fool and needs help. Decent fighter but not a true pro and has as much heart as the tim man in wizard of oz. That fight pissed me off rotten. Shit fight and the blame has to fall on Filho (candy king) what a lazy bastard. I hope the UFC doesn't sign him after that pooh!!! IMO he would be lucky if King of the Cage signed him.

Now, I heard he wants to fight at 205.... also, did he leave A. Silva, Nog, and Machida's camp? Maybe that is the problem.

Whatever the problem it needs fixing and he needs to prove to the big boys not to mention the mma world he has heart before his career is going to go where he wants it too. He did himself no favours at all, both in the cage and out of it.
