So you can't wear cups in Competitions...Is it the same rules in UFC....that would kill accidentally getting a knee or even a punch to the groin....

He was asking for practice not competition. In practice I wear as much protection as I can without compromising mobility. Heck, I still wear head gear some of the time.

Not only that, but if someone is trying to slide their knee up and "accidentally" tries to squash the man goods you better hope you have your groin protection.

the way you train is the way you fight in competition. Your training should always be as competition oriented as possible. That has always been my way of seeing it, so I have on about the same gear as in competition. The way I see it, better get used to good technique armbars than bad technique and a cup.

Getting a knee on you nads hurts, but it passes. I've been kicked and kneed in the nuts more times than I can count and I'm still fertile. It's all about who you train with. In UFC and other MMA organisations you are allowed to have a cup. But MMA and BJJ aren't the same sport.

In Karate class we can not wear them, in normal point tournaments we never wear them...but in the kick boxing I did they had us wear them..no choice. I got nailed once with one on and it hurt bad, it actually cracked!

We are required to wear them, period. That's how it is. All the BJJ and submission wrestling tournaments I have attended have either had groin protection required or optional.

That's one of the reasons I only do one or two competitions a year. Quite a bit of what I am taught on the ground is not allowed. We do many flow drills with strikes then flowing into a submission. Or breaking off a submission you cannot secure and flow into a strike. We also do neck cranks which are illegal in quite a few competitions.

Also PRIDE and a few other MMA Organizations require(d) them.

Oh okay, Im just curious but do u guys just strictly do BJJ...or do u guys do other stuff like Muay Thai, boxing wrestling etc....I just wanted to know because Im taking this BJJ class mainly because I am freaking interested and to help me get a base in MMA...If I do in fact enjoy BJJ, I'm planning on also doing Muay Thai/Boxing along with it.....because in MMA you have to have a base whether its boxing, wrestling, judo....Im not just going walk into a gym and say hey guys I want to start actually MMA classes....first i need a base and BJJ will be my base...

Gurre, sweet...Is it a pro fight or amateur fight?? Since you guys have experience...Do you guys think it would be tough to take like a bjj class at one gym and then soon take an mma class at another gym? I was just wondering...because the BJJ gym is Relsons Gracie's gym and I dont think they classes like Muay Thai or MMA, its strictly BJJ etc....
