Adding to the speculation that Gomi was way over rated and just lucky....he lost his latest fight to Russian fighter Sergey Golyaev (11/6).

Now that Gomi is not being protected by PRIDE, I dont see him doing all that well on his own! Say good by to the Mini Fedor that was never as good as his nick name!!

I don't know where I stand on the whole Gomi being overated issue, that however might just be though cos I am a huge fan of his and always loved watching his fights. The truth is though that he hasn't looked that good of late and he isn't the fighter he was a few years ago. Nor is he not having anywhere near the kind of impact he had when he was fighting in pride.
With that in mind I would never count him out and would always watch any of his fightsn if I had the chance. Definately one of pride's best fighters to watch at its peak.

I think he is just not training right and/or having the desire to fight any more. He may be treating it now as a job instead of a lifestyle/passion.

Oh Gomi, whatever happened to you?

I dont agree, I think he is suffering from "Star"-Itis. Apparently in Japan he is like a movie star. One of my seniors in Karate lives in Japan and apperently with PRIDE's death they still hold on to the super stars of that organization over their.

he is treated like a movie star and I think he is forgetting to train hard because he has it so cushy!

It pains me to see such an awesome and exciting fighter like Gomi lose the desire and hunger to be a top fighter. Gomi on his day was one of the best LW's in the world and is to me one of the most exciting fighters I have ever seen. He is still young enough to get that hunger back but failing that I would rather see him retire than turn into a has been who doesn't know when to quit. Come on son get back to your best so we can see fights like you put on against Nick Diaz, Hayato Sakurai and Jens Pulver. Then beat them type guys and then go have that rematch with B.J Penn that I always wanted to see.

I saw bits of this fight, that russain had speedy hands and height... he punched hard... but his guard was SHITE! If Gomi was taller I'd say go for the straight punches. But then again, this russian was awkward and had an alright performance. On the account of Gomi being voerrated, yeah he really is. He still hasn't reached the high he had when he won the Pride LW GP. He's not chasing down the oponenets anymore, he isn't that little japanese pest he was back then. I see it as a lack of will and killer instinct.
