Heel hookin all over the place!!

Postby Kensei » Wed May 07, 2008 11:13 am

Warning this is not for those that are a bit squeemish or dont like...hurting girls!

So, a few years ago I was teaching some basic Sambo subs to some students of mine and it lead to some very problematic issues. First issue was that I teach a very tough style of shotokan were we hit pretty much full force to the body and with pads, full on to the face.....only hand pads mind you. It turned into a very macho school were I had tones of students get KO'd during advanced class and in the grappling parts a few major injuries because we were to dumb...er brave to tap out. I actually choked out a kid three times in a row beceause he would not tap! Third time I sat him down because he was dizzy for a long period of time. Second issue is Ankle locks kind of sneek up on you. If you have never been in one....a good ankle lock or heel hook will kind of hurt for a second, but nothing to write home about, then the POP and you are right screwed....both locked person and locker!

So, we started the class off with seven seniors, all brown and black belt level and myself. I demod the heel hook and the ankle lock along with a knee bar. Good stuff. Then we did some drills to just put the other guy in the move, then a drill were they faught a bit. Then free style randori work were we went at it with throws and take downs. Only way to win was have the guy tap, or get choked out and then you could sit out waiting for the last group to be done and swap out partners.

First round I end up with a young girl, Ivanna, who was tough as hell and would never tap. I did a single leg and put her back down on the mat, slipped back and got an ankle lock. She would not tap, so I transitioned to a heel hook after sitting up a bit to repossition, oh, and she punched me in the face when I arched up to adjust...Nice eh! I layed back and twisted her leg! She did not tap so I put a bit more pressure on and told her I had it and to tap...Nope, She tried to kick me in the balls from her laying possition and caught the back of my left thigh....So POP! I twisted a bit more and the ankle gave way. She bucked in pain and then tightened up tapping out. I had leg go already, but that was that. She went and got Ice and sat down icing her ankle, that pops back in.

Next up was Nicolas, a greek Italian kid that was more macho than you would expect, for a kid that years later became a drag queen. I locked up with him and did my fav. throw...hip toss, and he landed with a thud! I tried for an Arm bar off his back but slipped out and he tried to get half mount, but I kept him off balance and half swept him half stood up, then fell back and had a nice ankle lock that did not pan out for me, slippery bugger pulled his foot out, so I reached over and got a toe hold on the other foot and he would not tap....I squeezed his leg to make sure he did not get out by wrapping my legs around his one leg, Gi to Gi it kept his leg from moving, and I turfed on the foot while he was trying to grab at my feet. Just as he started to pull my foot free he spun the wrong way and SNAP his ankle popped out and back! Not a great feeling when you down two of your students in less than three minutes!

Next up was max, Max was alot bigger than me and stronger, but slow as hell. I had said no punching and kicking if we grapple, but they never listen. He jabbed away at my face and missed just a bit each time. I warned him twice not to punch, on the third time he skined my cheek with his fist, so I swept his feet out and punched him hard in the guts, he lifted his feet up as he collapsed his torso and I got a nice knee bar set up. But he kind of rolled and as I was falling I connected hard, my shoulder drove threw the thin mat and hurt as it landed on the concreate under that. I leg go and he stood up with me. I really did not have much of a choice, I tried to throw him with a shoulder throw, but every time I pivoted to toss him he blocked it by leaning back.....So I faked it a fourth time and as he leaned back I ducked under my own legs forward and rolled sideways on an angle and got a rolling knee bar, truthfully this was the first time that ever worked for me. The other two times I drove my head into the floor to the delight of my Judo instructor......So, Slapping on a tight knee bar and shocking him a bit he tapped out. Not bad, and only brused my shoulder.

Last match up of the night was Jing Ting, Switched up partners and started off again. Jing Ting was a girl that started training with me, but went to my instructors club and once and a while came to train with me and my students. She was not as tough as my students but was good at Karate. I circled a bit trying to take it easy on her and then she fired in and missed a double leg by a mile and a half, as she fell on her face I just lazily fell to the floor and grabbed her ankle, what happened next I will never understand. As I slapped on a light heel hook it just gave way. She relaxed her whole leg and just went with the move, but the ankle just poped with so little force it is not funny, and the sound was horrible. A knuckle popping into a megaphone is about the only way I can descrive it. She did not even buck, but it hurt, and she showed me by biting me! She bit my calf so hard she drew blood, I had already let go. The next day I found out I had ripped half her ligiments in her ankle and she had to wear a brace for a month and was on crutches for two weeks.....oh, how kids heal fast.

I told everyone after that "if you have them in a sub and they wont tap, let go!". I also put into effect that all matches had to have an impartial ref who stopped and restarted matches if a sub was slapped on, even if the other guy or gal was to much of a meat head to tap out....even me!

That night with my wife I was telling her about the day and the injuryes, which she was used to. She dared me to puta heal hook on her and said I could not do it. So, I slapped a double ancle lock on her and then Heel hooked her right foot, as she went to kick me with her left I caught that one and heel hooked her left foot. She walked with a limp for three days! And I had to eat soup and cereal for a week, she woudl not cook for me and barely talked to me! I guess that is what you call a moral victory right???? :?

I like you Gurre and the only reason you are getting away with it is A) I am probably twice your age and it is not nice to pick on old people..So shame on you  B) you are an ocean away, and my short ass arms wont reach! and C) I am a passafist now...no that is not misspelt, it is a new word...Pass-a-fist!

I had a lot of accidents when I started teaching because I was very gung ho and taught a tough stly of Karate. One tougher than my instructors. I am still a bit gung ho when I spar or roll with people, but age has calmed me down a bit and now that I am more relaxed less accidents happen. Besides as I got older the accidents started happening more and more to ME!
