While that is one way, I say practice on a kick sheild with a buddy and make sure your mechanics are right, use the hips, dont just kick with your leg!

Do you mean the roundhouse to the thigh? I am guessing so.

Have someone take a heavy bag down and hold it by the chains or hold it in general. Then practice.

Remember knee should come up first, rotate hips, snap leg. Land with your shin and not the top of your foot.

You can also practice while shadowboxing. I have heard pros and cons when it comes to this. Usually when you practice during shadowboxing you want to do a complete spin with the kick. This teaches you to drive through with your kick.

It's all in the hip work baby! really plough round, like said above by GoW make sure you don't kick in an upward fashion - more of a round motion hence the roundhouse. Turn your body with your kick to really snap the leg round. Make sure when you are kicking you are up on the ball of your planted foot to help with rotation.

Yeah, but do you really want the nerves on your shin to be dead? Usually heavy bag work will be enough these days.

Frogs, Squats, Lunging Steps, Calf/Toe Raises, and practicing your technique on a bag. Do some lower ab and back and oblique workouts as well.

has anyone seen Remy Bonjasky's legkicks? Man, those sure have some power. I belive that legkicks that come from above the leg like that gain extra momentum. Watch closely next time he fights, his kicks are really really technical. But as said above, it's all in timing and hip. I'd say drill legkicks in light sparring to get the timing right.

You could start with doing balance development drills. Try doing on legged squats (be careful to watch that your knee doesn't go past your toes). Balance during a kick will improve your ability to deliver fast and powerful kicks. Try using a stability ball to do squats on, do lunges with on foot on the stability ball. Once you get a pretty good handle on balance, make sure you have work on the mechanics of the kick. Lots of good posts above about mechanics of the kick. Conventional wisdom tells you that a good cut kick will end in a full spin if it is not landed. Good in traditional Thai, not so hot if you do it more than once or twice in a fight. Understanding what your range for your kicks is another important item. When you are working the heavy bag or a tear bag, know where your contact range is. Try throwing combinations and be aware of where you end up throughout the process. You don't want to end up short or too far away when throwing your kick.

It's all in the hips mate.
It all depends what you train in and what type of kick you're talking about here.
