I have not tried this yet, but my neighbor used to be a small time boxer. This is what he told me his coach had hiim do:

Take a towel and roll it up, then get some lighter weights (your going to be punching with these, so dont get too much weight). When your in your stance, most people that are right handed lead a fighting stance with their left shoulder forward... put the towel in between your rear shoulder and neck, and practice throwing punches in different angles. This teaches you to keep your head down, and if you switch the towel around you can also get used to punching switched up. Do reps in different directions, like punch straight forward, then up high, down low, etc.

Now, as I have said i have not tried this yet, but he said it would build muscles around your shoulder that will give you a little more power behind your punches. I've seen similar exercises used watching a few shows like TapouT and others... so it might work.

First and foremost TECHNIQUE! Technique is everything. Work on punching from your toes up. Remember to put your hips and your shoulders into the punch, but do not over exert yourself.

Heavy bags are great to build up power believe it or not.

If you are unable to chop wood, get a 12 lb. sledge hammer and a pretty thick tire and beat on it. Switch between left handed and right handed stance.

If you want to put a snap in your punch you could try resistance tubes.

also you wont learn a punch like liddels in boxing, his powerpunch is pretty much a toned down haymaker. but conventional weightlifting doesnt hurt, like try bench pressing dumbells to develop better single arm strength and control this is good because when ur punching and stuff ur not gonna always be able to throw your hips into it and plant ur feet and twist and stuff, its good to also have pure explosive power in just the punching motion too

well lifting them slowly trains your muscles to be able to move slow and carry alot of weight, if you explode, it trains your muscles to have explosive speed. a good way to say bench is go down kindof slow and then when it hits your chest, explode up and lockit out, that will help you train for having explosive muscles, and going down slow will help you on strength too, try going and counting a solid second on your way down too for the bench

Yeah you can do that, but if you put too much weight on while doing these workouts you can hurt yourself.

Thats what i was thinking.I dont want to hurt myself by lifting weights.I can bench around 285 and squat parallel around 420 at a bodyweight of 176.I think thats good for my weight, but i want to get quicker and stronger for wrestling.
