We’ve all said it lots of times, the UFC has a strong LHW division. Ofcourse Pride has a good pool too, but the UFC has had this as a constant strong point for many years. But I feel that over the past year a lot has changed.

So what fighters does the UFC have? Well with Tito not having a new deal signed and Vitor Belfort being a in a big slump at the moment we have the following fighters in the LHW division:

Sure it seems to be a lot of fighters, but let’s have a closer look at them. Randy Couture fought Chuck Liddell recently, and got knocked out. Randy is 42 years old. It’s been said before, but I don’t think that he’ll have a easy time recovering from this loss.
Chuck Liddell is 36 years old. The champion and number one contender are both over 35 years of age! This does not look good.

Edwin Dewees, Stephan Bonnar, Travis Wiuff, Forrest Griffin and Bill Mahood are talented fighters, that’s for sure but I don’t see how they can be ready to carry the LHW division on their shoulders. They simply don’t have the experience.

Ken Shamrock is a living legend but lt’s face it, he’s way over the hill and the recent loss to Rich “Ace” Franklin proved a point. “Shammy” has had a great career but it’s time for him to retire once and for all.
And Vernon “Tiger” White, despite being a very tough fighter is getting too old and one-dimentional. He did have an excellent fight against Chuck Liddell, but he can’t even prove himself in his own game, striking, anymore.

This leaves only 2 fighters: Travis Lutter and Renato Sobral. What is Travis Lutter doing in the UFC, I’ll never know. He lacks the skills to compete at that level, and he seems to have a very low confidence. He doesn’t even have any groundskills to actually show at the big shows.
Renato Sobral on the other hand is a great prospect just ready to handle the big stage. I think he’s improved in every aspect of the game, and he is worthy of a big fight in the near future. He might be the future of the division, that’s if Pride doesn’t take him.

With this chronical I open the http://www.mma-forum.com and hope the whoever reads this writes his/her oppinion in the forum!

I think Sobral is ready, He'll be a real threat to Chuck. But I think Randy's seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. But one can never be too sure about Randy.

i picked ken shamrock
not becasue i dont like him but because
if he loses anymore it would tarnish his legacy.
he was great but at his time now i feel that time has catched up with him

i feel that in a couple of years also randy
and maybe chuck will retire
when more young people start in ufc.
it will b interesting to see what happens when many of there legends dissapear if there will be people
who can get the same kind of reputation as the ones stated

Yeah I totally agree. What will happen to UFC's lhw division in a few years when both Randy and Chuck decide to step it down? Will it be the same situation as the k-1 faces today? will get get new talent? I think that only the future will tell. But it's a good question, that's for sure.

Well to be honest I tihnk he came out of retierment for the cash, not cos he really wanted to. Doesn't seem to have the drive that it takes to be on top.

i also think its for the money
but he got my respect even if he went to wwf
he could have retired an lived of his legendary status an hyped it up. but instead he kept fighting
even if he has some pretty bad looses
the last one against franklin i felt bad for him.

i respect people who fight even when there loosing
thats guts think about all the people who has left the ufc becasue of a bad winning streak or a single bad loss

Well yes. But I still think he should put this behind him. He owns the Lion's Den gym and he has produced some good fighters through the years. He sure was good and went to WWF, and I respect him too. But now he isn't as good as he thinks.

I dont think Sobral can do it, hes really good but he lacks the little edge, Liddel KOed him once and i think he will do it again

Yes, he was KOed by Liddell, but wasn't that in 2002? I think it was some years back. I think he can pull it off with a good standup coach
