order of belts?

Postby SakuRules » Thu Jul 20, 2006 8:40 am

I know this is sort of an amaturish question, but I wonder if someone would give me the order of colored belts in TKD. Also, is it the same for Karate, Kung Fu, and Judo?

i think karate may be same as Judo apart from they might have a purple belt inbetween blue and brown, however it might vary depending on organisation

Karate:

This is not how every style does belt ranking, but it's close. I know some styles that will do White, then White with one Yellow stripe before hitting Yellow, but this is how we do ours.

10th Kyu White Belt
9th Kyu Yellow Belt
8th Kyu Orange Belt
7th Kyu Purple Belt
6th Kyu Green Belt
5th Blue Belt
4th Kyu Brown Belt
3rd Kyu Brown with two Black stripes
2nd Kyu Brown with three Black stripes
1st Kyu/1st Dan Black Belt
2nd-5th Dan have Black Belts with Red Stripes indicating each Dan level achieved.
Then on 6th Dan you achieve a Master Ranking and get a Red and White belt. As your rank increases and you gain more Dan rankings your belt becomes more and more red, and upon 9th I am pretty sure it's solid red, and I know 10th Dan is.

Tae Kwan Do:

10th Gup White Belt
9th Gup White Belt With Yellow Stripe
8th Gup Yellow Belt
7th Gup Yellow Belt With Green Stripe
6th Gup Green Belt
5th Gup Green Belt With Blue Stripe
4th Gup Blue Belt
3rd Gup Blue Belt With Red Stripe
2nd Gup Red Belt
1st Gup Red Belt With Black Stripe
1st Dan (Il Dan) Black Belt

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

In capoeira, the belt system has been replaced with cords of colored rope. The colors themselves often (but not always) represent the Brazilian flag. The following levels are for Capoeira Mandinga.

Students:
---------------------------
Green: awarded at the first Batizado (baptism).
Green/Yellow
Yellow
Green/Blue
Yellow/Blue

Graduated Students:
----------------------------
Green/Yellow/Blue

Instructors:
----------------------------
Blue
2 Greens, Blue & Yellow
2 Yellows, Bule & Green
2 Blues, Green & Yellow

Professor:
----------------------------
Green/Yellow/Blue/White

Master:
----------------------------
Green/White
Green, Yellow & White
Yellow/White
Yellow, Blue & White
Blue/White
White

In addition, Masters must have 5 years or more at each level in order to advance.

Actually Karate styles use different colors.
In our Org. we do not use blue for instance.
It goes
White
Yellow
Orange
Green
Purple....twice
Brown....three times
Black

No blue or pink or teal....and no camo!
