sparring a southpaw

Postby slavegan » Thu Aug 11, 2005 2:36 pm

have you sparred with southpaws ?
i have heard that southpaws are harder to fight becasue its very unorthodox.
but they have there liver more exposed as its ithe side that is facing forward.
any thoughts ?.
i fight southpaw too so i would really like to get some advice on what techniques to look out for.

At first I was righthanded, but then I 'chrushed' my knucles like 6 months ago in a Ego attempt to break some wood while is was drunk, I didn't break it but it got so Very compressed, that two of my knucles are almost flat, but I didn't quit traing (no sparring tho). I went to the bag at my club and hit with only my left hand, so I turned into a southpaw haha :D

Although, now that my righthand is recoverd if tho heavily dented :( I can switch staces as i fight :P I fight equally good in both stances.. Envy me!

Southpaws are more exposed to the right hand over the top, or to the body. But you yourself are more exposed to his/hers left hand.

They circle the othe way, which means the always try to keep their lead foot outside your leadfoot.

Use good, fast footwork, and be on your toes. I guess that's the only thing against a southpaw.

And yes they are harder to fight since about 10% of all fighters are southpaws

sorry to hear that liemann sounds painfull.i was born ambidextrous
so it dosent matter what side i have in front i just took southpaw cuz i thouth it would be the most difficult to fight against.
