so,i'm an excellent wrestler, and i also am pretty good at judo and jiu jujutsu.i also have researched many types of martial arts, and i know the proper ways to fight, and where to strike to get the most out of a punch or strike..all the fights ive been in at school,i used my sub grappling skills...but when i think about "what do i do when im really in a striking fight?" i know what to do,but i dont feel like i could remember what i know when the time came...how do i fix this?

Get to a gym and start working out with people who can teach you, reading about it just won't get you to where you want to be. Pick a disciplin and work at it...Kickboxing or Muay Thai (although there are so many great martial arts out there) I would recomend but boxing is good to. It's alot more than just throwing a punch or kick they will be able to teach you foot work, defense and techniches that books just wont teach you. Let alone the dirty tricks that we are not suppose to know or do, not that I learnt them
Best advice is Train an Train hard :!: :!: :!:

SPARRING. SPARRING. SPARRING! Get to a gym and mix up your sparring partners so that they don't become predictable. This will help you improve immensely, make sure you're training with someone with the right attitude and someone who is humble and will help you where he notices weakness and mistakes, not some asshole who is just going to capitalize on your errors non stop and never help fix them.

Use your brain not your gut instincts.

Okay, here it is...Been in more fights than I should tell you youngsters, been stabbed, shat at sprayed with pepper spray, beat up, given the boots and more times than not done well for myself. Here is my three points of advice for you!

1) Take up a striking art, you never will learn how to swim unless you get into the friggin pool! Learn technique, work on sparring with different guys (as has been suggested) and dont drop the Judo/Jujitsu. Try to work out in a gym were you can thump a bit, not common today. Go old school and put on pads and really go for it, get used to taking a bit of a beating and push yourself to be in good shape, really learn the arts techniques ext.

2) Remember the one peice of information and it will keep you alive, you can train all you want, push yourself in the boxing ring/Dojo floor/ Mats/ what have you, plan strategyies and work them for each situation, push your body to hard wire in responses and work on building up power, speed and reaction time......but as soon as you get kicked in the balls, punched in the face or leg kicked...that pretty all much goes to shit! So, in a fight situation you want that all worked into your subconcious and then pray it works out for you. Remember you might win 60% of the fights you get in if you are great, 50% if you are good and 40% if you are really just a good fighter! Any one that says they have won all their fights is eather fighting the Homo squad at school or is full of shit!

3) This is the single most important peice of advice I can pass on to you after 30+ years of street fighting and working the door at bars.....DONT FIGHT! First off no one really wins a street fight. 90% of the time both guys get hurt, just one gets hurt more. You dont get a prize or some guy raising your hand at the end to say you won...both guys walk away and that is the most you can hope for....and sometimes one does not! Like I said, I have been knifed, shot at and had my ass handed to me on several occasions, I have also shit kicked and puss punched a tone of guys in my time, I can honestly say, I have never "won" a street fight, But I have survived a tone of them. My biggest suggestion is to simply not fight. Take up the fight sports for competition, fitness and fun, but if your only purpose is to "win" a street fight.....take up petty point man, the world will be better for it...and you get all those cute pictures to hand around the house

I am alot younger than kensei being only 26 but I was in the security game for years and have been in my fair share if shit too and all of what he said is great advice. Point 3 is especially important, street fighting in the end is pointless (not saying thats what your doing just good words of wisdom thats all). Learning to fight is great but as spiderman was told by Uncle Ben with great power comes great responsibility (can you believe some people consider me a geek  )

So remember to train hard, and that getting hit and hurt is part of traiing thats crucial. Without the pains of getting your ass kicked frequently you will not learn but Like it's already been said make sure you learn as you teachers and training partners arebeating you down and make sure they are doing it for the right reasons.
So go find yourself a good gym in a style that interests you then train and work hard.

It also takes a lot of time, some people are faster than others so don't let that discourage you. And as stated above, sparring, you MIGHT feel uncomfortable doing it at first, but just find someone who is around your level to start off with and has a mutual understanding to not kill you at first, that comes later. I think getting used to being hit was my biggest deal, but I learned I have a very hard head and learned the proper way to move/defend/counter to get out of those sticky situations. Hope that helps? :?

i have to agree with all of these guys. The best way to learn is to get on the mats and get started. Having a training partner that understands first time fighting is critical. Train with someone who is not going to kick your ass to bolster their ego. A great training partner will take it slow and help you learn to block and counter with proper technique, versus enjoying as they pummel you and you block with your face

LMAO, I know of a few fighters that visit here that I dont want to piss off. Jason being one of them. Seriously gang. been their done that tees dont make you smart! They mean you are friggin dumb to avoid a scrap. And in the ring I have had fun, Lost some and won some! Always felt lucky and not great!

Back to fighter mentallity. I dont know if it is good to get pissed in a fight, that is why I train guys to fight mad, then fight smart before they get to the point of competition. It is better to go in with a clear head and not upset. But if you are going to get into it on the street, get MAD! Adrenaline is a great thing!!!
